Made to Play

Joel Henriques is an artist and designer. He has devoted time to make art and craft meaningful regardless of skill level or age. Together with his children, he has created the most stunning toys, games, and paper crafts. Exercise fine motor skills and dive into a world where anything is possible – almost.

Joel says, “Each arts and crafts piece is important to me because it reflects the relationship between art and everyday life.”

His book Made to Play!: Handmade Toys and Crafts for Growing Imaginations encourages your child to play through making handmade toys. This book has ideas from sewn and stuffed musical instruments to interlocking paper building blocks and wooden animal figurines. The ideas are created to spark imagination and promote open-ended play.

The projects use materials such as repurposed fabrics, wood, and paper. The book sparks a desire to spend some time together as a family to Think Dive into a magical place where ideas are turned into toys and crafts. The great thing about the ideas is that they provide inspiration where there is room for new ideas and solutions so that it is possible to put your own twist on the projects.

A visit to Joel blog, Made by Joel,  is warmly recommended. You will find lots of inspiration for things that you can make, several pint-outs,  and colouring sheets that will provided hours of fun.
