The First Hippo on the Moon by David Walliams

This is the tale of two hippos. Two hippos with one dream.

To be the very First Hippo one the Moon.

Dreaming BIG is important and this summer we have dreamed about a trip to Pluto. Inspired by particularly the heart-shape found on the planet we have travelled in our minds to this mysterious dwarf planet. Somehow dreaming about the Moon, does not seem that exciting after a mind trip to Pluto but the book The First Hippo on the Moon by David Walliams changed all this. This book is cool and crazy! And it tickles all your laughing muscles.

Meet Sheila a hippo who dreams about being the first hippo on the Moon. But Hercules Waldorf-Franklin 111 also has big dreams and he is a very rich hippo. Love the name Hercules Waldorf-Franklin 111!

Waldorf-Franklin 111 is perhaps not the nicest as characters and it is Shelia who builds a rocket from trunks, vines and dung that we hope will wins this space-race. Hercules Waldorf-Franklin 111 pays for a gigantic Hippo Space Centre to launch him into space. So who do you think will be the first hippo-postranaut on the moon?

The illustrations by Tony Ross captures the humorous story. The changes in the size and angles of the text makes this book easy to read out loud. You know exactly which words to stress. One some pages the text is written in comic style speech bubbles.

The best authors always invent words and David sure has a talent for making up hilarious words. So make sure that make the most of the very silly sound-effects.
