Do things together

Mo Williems is the brillant and much-loved children’s author, who created the Pigeon series, Knuffle Bunny, and Elephant & Piggie.

Mo says that if you want your kid to be artistic you have to be a role model. You have to spend time sitting there drawing, playing the piano, or building weird and marvellous inventions.

Most children will have a day when they realise that they are not going to be a professional musician or cartoonist. By engaging in these activities together, your child will still want to do these things even after they have realised that they may not achieve their dreams. If you can then they can still be drawing, playing and tinkering simply because it is fun!

Mo says ” we constantly hear, “Our children are the future,” but we seldom say, “Hey we’re the present and it’s incumbent on us to be present.” So there’s this silliness, but there’s also a, “You can do it, too.”

Great things to remember during the school holidays!

  1. WOW! I have never thought about being a role model in this way. Thank you so much for sharing this! We are role models for students today and as teachers we need to show them learning behaviours 🙂
